Help cover the costs of running a national patient-education campaign
Why This Matters
Osteoarthritis affects 32.5 million adults in the United States, and that number is projected to climb to 78 million by 2040. Yet low-dose radiation therapy (LDRT) for osteoarthritis, remains strikingly underused. A landmark 1998 survey of more than 1,300 institutions worldwide found that fewer than 10% of U.S. radiation providers used LDRT for osteoarthritis, compared with more than 85% in Central European countries, where it has been standard practice for decades.
That gap is not about the treatment being new. It is about awareness. Most patients have never heard of LDRT, and many doctors outside radiation oncology have not either. Radiant Joint Alliance exists to close that gap: a free, plain-language directory and education resource so patients with stubborn joint pain know this option exists and where to find it.
